I’m not very good at placing my characters inside a scene. I tend to create a couple of sketches separately and then spend a few hours shrinking my character into the scene using Photoshop. So I cheat! In today’s lesson I was working with scale and dimension through a very simple and very obvious technique - the rectangle!

BODY SHAPE AND EXPRESSION

If you’re sad, you tend to slump your shoulders and watch the ground. When you’re confident, you stand tall and face forward. You command space around you. It’s obvious isn’t it - the way we hold our body discloses our internal emotion better than the expression we wear upon our face. In this lesson, I was learning to explore these different body shapes and their emotional impact on our characters.
